Tucked in Along 94

For the past few days, we've been tucked in along 94 West.

Intentionally close to the highway.

Easy on. Easy off.

Today we're at Bismarck Journey KOA.

KOAs are an interesting breed of campground.

People love them for the consistency of amenities and family-friendly vibe. And I agree. That's what you get with a KOA.

They're also pricey, often very busy, and occasionally come with some weirdo rules.

Like the Fourth of July at Harper's Ferry KOA, a KOA that sells alcohol on the premises because, West Virginia.

Hey, that's convenient.

What's not convenient is that two legal-age adults cannot assist one another in carrying alcohol to the counter. Only the person who carries it can pay, and they must present ID.

Every time.

I understand guarding against under-agers trying to pull a fast one.

But everyone in our group that weekend was over 50.

No one's mistaking us for teenagers.

So.

Trade-offs.

But let's move on.

Today, after we set up our site, we met our neighbor, a full-time RVer and retired homicide detective.

I only got to chat with him for a little bit.

He's probably lucky we're leaving tomorrow morning.

With more time, I would 100% ask him for an official interview and turn this into a true crime blog for a day.

Ironically, he's also a mobile RV tech. He seems way more capable than Battery Guy from Wisconsin. We could have used his services 300 miles ago.

But on we hop.

Micro-hop, that is.

Another super-short drive tomorrow, and one more night in North Dakota before we cross into Montana.

And, by the way, the micro-hops are good.

We might be off our rockers for only traveling one or two hours some days.

But I wouldn't change it.

It's perfectly our pace.

This evening, we left the campground and saw the eastern side of Bismarck.

Harbor Freight for upgraded wheel chocks, and Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews for dinner. Decent place. Unusual selection of burgers. Fifty beers on tap. Sports pub energy.

On the campfire situation, this site does have a fire pit.

However, at this moment, when one might want to enjoy a fire, this campground is in the middle of a thunderstorm, with scattered rain possible for the rest of the evening.

So.

The quest continues.
